The Natural World: owls and birdsong

Part 1 Owls: Their natural history and conservation. This 3 week course looks at Owls with British focus, as we look at their evolution, special adaptations, habitats, and individual species breakdown. We will also look at conservation of Owls. After the course there will be an option to go out and watch local owls with Chris.

Part 2 Bird Song: An easy guide to bird song. During the second 3 weeks of the course we will look at how and why birds sing, as well as focusing closely on learning how to identify birds by their songs and calls. This course is timed perfectly with mostly local birds beginning to sing. There is an option post course to participate in a dawn chorus, and fully practice what you have learnt.

Creatures that come awake at night create mystery, much has been said in folklore about birds of I’ll omen, but in this course you will find out the science surrounding owls and their conservation.

The bird song course is delivered at a perfect time of year, just as birds are tuning up their spring songs. This course will help appreciate your walks in countryside or even towns, as you will begin a journey of a better understanding of how, why and who is singing.

Both courses come with additional options to go out with Chris locally looking for Owls and also to participate in a bird dawn chorus.
