Elizabeth I was the most remarkable woman of a remarkable age. Her reign was one of the great creative periods of English history. After summarising Elizabeth’s reign we will follow a survey of the main features of the reign : art, houses and gardens, literature, maritime endeavour and finish with music.

The renaissance was late getting to England, but when it came, there was a spring in its step.
