Seamus Heaney: poet of place

Throughout his life, Seamus Heaney derived poetic inspiration from various quarters. However, many of his poems are rooted in a deep sense of place.

Heaney was born in in the family farmhouse, Mossbawn, before later moving with them to Bellaghy, County Derry, and, although he travelled to and lived in other places, including the USA, he was always drawn back to the place of his birth and was inspired, not just by the landscape but also by  the people, their work and their language.

We shall be looking at some of these ‘place’ poems set against the backdrop of Heaney’s life.

Copies of the poems will be provided.
