This day school will explore the history of Empire in the Post-Classical Age from about 600 to 1450 CE. We will learn about the re-emergence of China under the Sui, Tang and Song dynasties; explore Empires centred around faith (such as the Byzantines, Arabs, and Mughals), and watch the Mongols thundering out from the Eurasian Steppe to conquer the biggest Empire of all. We will also venture further afield to discover the isolated Empires of Africa and the Americas – Mali, the Aztecs and the Incas.
We will explore how all these Empires rose, interacted, functioned, and fell, and how they laid the basis for the emergence of the Modern World.
