Allan Phillipson
Dr Allan Phillipson has studied in New Zealand and Canada, and has a PhD from the University of British Columbia. He wrote a dissertation on modern poetry and has many years of teaching experience. For the last 15 years, he has worked in adult education, combining WEA courses with a variety of freelance courses, lectures, and dayschools.
His areas of interest include literature, art history, social history, architecture and cinema. From 2004-7, he created a series of “Great Houses, Great Literature” courses in conjunction with the National Trust. After moving to Bath in 2007, he led courses on American literature and film for the American Museum in Britain. He also offers a 2-hour walking tour entitled “The Hidden Treasures of Bath”.
Every Thursday, he teaches a Shakespeare course in Bristol. For a number of years, he delivered the annual lecture to the Bath Shakespeare Society. This led to a lecture on Hamlet at the University of Bath (as part of their GULP series) and another on Shakespeare and his illustrators at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. He is delighted to be associated with CASA in Clevedon, and firmly believes in their principle of learning through enjoyment.
