This course aims to introduce you to some of the many women who enjoyed successful careers as painters and sculptors in countries across Europe down the centuries. We will begin in the early Renaissance and will consider some of the difficulties women artists faced and end our survey as the situation for women began to improve. Some artists including Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun and Artemisa Gentileschi will be familiar.
