It will look at artistic development from the viewpoint of different themes and we will examine the ideas, narratives and histories from the viewpoint of many different painters, covering the long period of Dutch history. During the day we will see how artists from different periods of Dutch history dealt with these themes. Our time span will cover the period of Spanish rule, the birth of the Republic, the long century of the “Golden Age” through to the mini renaissance of the late 19th Century and the modernism of the Dutch in the 20th Century.
